Drivers Johan Fourie and Graeme Nathan were in the hunt for the class A and T titles respectively. Going into the event Fourie held a narrow one point lead over Michael Stephen but Nathan was 20 adrift of Gary Formato so need a bit of luck.
Fourie had a difficult qualifying as he battled to get the last few tenths of a second out of the Indy Oils Audi S4 due to erratic brakes. Nathan seemed to be in control of class T as he put the Indy Oils liveried Golf 6 GTI on pole. Joining Nathan in class T was Reghard Roets who qualified the Indy Oil Golf 5 third fastest.
The opening race saw Fourie's hopes dashed when he pitted with a punctured left front tyre. A bigger problem was the fact that the engine had overheated and this compromised the rest of his day. Nathan had a good race as he won ahead of Formato with Roets in third place.
Race two saw Fourie hobbled with overheating issues and a lack of power meant he only managed fifth place. Nathan spent most of the race was stuck behind Formato and was runner-up. Roets finished third again but there had been an exchange of paintwork along the way.
With a damaged engine Fourie could do no better than fifth in race three but the damage was done, and with the championship out of reach, he retired early from the last race of the day.
Thanks to Formato taking victory in the third race, Nathan's challenge was futile but a never say die drive saw him take second place again. In race four he was fifth.
Roets was precluded from starting races three and four so the car was offered to Gennaro Bonafede whose regular Ferodo Golf had been sidelined with an engine problem. The 21-year old gave a good account of himself and ended the day with a brace of third places, enough to keep his third place in the championship.
Although he didn't take the title, Fourie remained positive. "We still finished second in the championship. IndyOil and my technical crew deserve a special mention we couldn't have done it without all their support and encouragement."
"Unfortunately things didn't work out for us, but sometimes that happens in the world of motorsport. Still, its been a great year which would have been impossible without Indy Oil and everyone else involved," lamented Nathan.
